Biggest Party on the Planet...What Are You Doing?

Join the party!

Earth Hour is this Saturday 28 March from 8:30-9:30 and well over 1 Billion people are said to be participating, don't be left out!!

There are lots of fun things you and your friends and family could do to partake in this historic global movement!! You could have a candle light dinner made with fair-trade goods, play charades by candlelight, a good game of torch tag, or have a "lights out" party with green themed drinks, like an Eco-tini.

Whomever comes up with the most creative activity, please submit a photo and a brief description of what you did and we will feature you on our blog!!

The University will be participating and turning off lights between 8:30 and 9:30 pm, taking a step towards being a greener place. This is a university wide initiative, led by Estates & Facilities and Tomorrow's Leaders - a student-led project focusing on sustainability and responsibility.

Enjoy Earth Hour and we look forward to seeing what all of you get up to!!

  1. Great the university will turn off its lights for one hour and we should all take part in that hour of darkness.

I have only been at Westminster since October but i see no signs of a commited approach to tackling climate change. This has to be done everyday on a grass roots level with the whole university including the staff and stdents, not just for one hour.

    1) Where are the recycling points in each of the campuses for plastic, tins, papers etc.?

    2) Where are the paper shredders located so unwanted printouts can be recycled?

    3) What happens to the printer cartridges in all the printers?

    4) Why is the university not using recycled paper in its printers?

    5) Where are the safe bike storage areas so students can cycle to uni and know their bike will be ok? This also encourages the Westminster students to keep active which they so readily teach.

6)Whoppee there is Faitrade coffee and tea but it is sold in cups which will get used for 5 minutes then thrown away. Nice!

Just turning out your lights for one hour is not enough even if it is just to highlight the point. Action need to be taken now and measures implemented if Westminster wants to be taken seriously in its quest to be a greener university.
